Who is to say horse racing should be uniquely bound to “tradition”?


Since the last sweep in 1978, horses from the Derby have made up 51% of Preakness fields but accounted for 71% of the top three finishes and 83% of the winners — and that includes recent years when the Preakness often was the only time those horses ever raced back in two weeks.
