Breaches are still occurring at a fast clip — it’s just now the distribution of theft and compromise has spread out. Breaches are smaller, and according to security insiders, they’re far more targeted. And frequently the theft is of IP or other digital property that could be even more damaging than customer records when stolen, but which are more difficult to quantify and don’t make the statistical headlines.

All companies subject to the regulations are required to maintain various computer security protocols for storage and transmittal of personal data, along with installation of anti-virus software and employer-led training in how to properly use the computer security system.

Majority surveyed believe they are vulnerable to cyberattack at userpoints — PCs, laptops and desktops.
“Attackers today are very clever, ... They try to obfuscate their attacks. It’s getting harder for organizations to know what’s happening.” Researchers report that 70 percent of the respondents (62 % located in the United States) believed that they were most vulnerable to cyberattack at user endpoints — PCs, laptops and desktops.

Computers stolen from a Chicago physician group potentially exposed over million medical patients records.
Information on the computers may have included names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers and certain clinical information, such as diagnoses, medical records numbers, medical service codes and health insurance information, according to the statement. Complete medical records were not on the computers.

North Texas Spine Specialist Reports Patient Data Breach.
The North Texas Comprehensive Spine and Pain Center told 3,000 patients last week of a recent data breach in which it lost a computer drive containing patient medical records back in June.
